Understanding Star Ratings

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3-Star AC: Annual Energy Consumption ≈ 840 kWh
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star AC: Annual Energy Consumption ≈ 650 kWh

5-star AC units consume 20-25% less power than 3-star models. Higher star rating means better energy efficiency and lower electricity bills.

At this time Air conditioners (ACs) are an very important part of human being life and homes, when temperature increased the need / demand of Air conditioners constantly increased . When people go to buy an AC, one big question are arise in her mind of how much electricity bill come. Now a days ACs come with star ratings, like 3 Star or 5 Star, which show how energy-efficient they are.

3 Star Vs 5 Star AC Power Consumption Calculator

In this blog, we will explain in simple words, what these star ratings mean, how they affect electricity use, which one might be better for you and also provided the 3 Star Vs 5 Star AC Power Consumption Calculator .This will help you choose the right AC for your home and save money on your electricity bill.

What is Star Rating System ?

The star rating system is governed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in India . The BEE rating is a key indicator of energy-efficient of a device. we know that the Air conditioners are rated on a scale from 1 to 5 stars, where a higher star rating of any device indicates better energy efficiency.

  • 1 Star AC: This rating is very poor efficient, which show that the device consumes more electricity.
  • 3 Star AC: This type of AC are much better than the 1 star AC . which having a Moderate energy efficiency. most of people are used due lower cast .
  • 5 Star AC: This is the best rating of AC . which are provided Highly efficient and consumes less electricity.

The energy efficiency is measured by the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER), which is the ratio of the cooling capacity (in BTUs per hour) to the power consumption (in watts). The higher EER show the more energy-efficient the AC .

How Much Power Does a 3 Star AC Consume ?

Here we are calculate the 3 Star AC electricity Consumption

Let’s assume you have a 1.5 Ton 3 Star air conditioner. The energy efficiency ratio (EER) for a 3 Star AC is typically ranges between 3.0 and 3.5.

  • Cooling Capacity: 1.5 Ton = 18,000 BTU/h
  • EER: 3.0 to 3.5

To calculate the power consumption, we use the formula: Power Consumption (W)=Cooling Capacity (BTU/h)/EER

For a 3.0 EER:

Power Consumption=18,000/3.0=6,000 W=6 kW

Thus, a 1.5 Ton 3 Star AC would consume approximately 6 kWh of power per hour of usage.

How Much Power Does a 5 Star AC Consume?

Now, let’s consider a 1.5 Ton 5 Star air conditioner. we know that the EER for a 5 Star AC is typically ranges from 3.5 to 4.5.

  • Cooling Capacity: 1.5 Ton = 18,000 BTU/h
  • EER: 3.5 to 4.5

Using the same formula: Power Consumption (W)=Cooling Capacity (BTU/h)/EER

For a 4.0 EER:

Power Consumption =18000/4 =4500w=4.5kw
Thus, a 1.5 Ton 5 Star AC would consume approximately 4.5 kWh of power per hour of usage.

Power Consumption Comparison of 3 star and 5 star AC.

Here are Power Consumption Comparison between 3 star and 5 star AC .

Let’s compare a 1.5-ton AC running for 8 hours/day:

AC TypePower Usage (Units/Day)Monthly Cost* (₹8/unit)
3-Star AC8-10 units₹1,920 – ₹2,400
5-Star AC5-7 units₹1,200 – ₹1,680

(Approximate cost, varies with electricity rates)*

A 5-star AC can save you ₹500–₹800 per month!
