GKI Calculator
What is Glucose Ketone Index (GKI) Calculator ?
The Glucose Ketone Index (GKI) Calculator is online tool to understand how your body is using energy. It compares your blood sugar and ketone levels. If your GKI number is low, it means your body is burning fat for energy instead of sugar. This is good if you're trying to lose weight, manage diabetes, or follow a keto diet. To use the calculator, just enter your blood sugar and ketone readings. It will show your GKI number

Glucose Ketone Index Calculation Formula
GKI Calculation Formula

OR (if glucose is measured in mg/dL):

Steps to Calculate GKI
- Measure Blood Glucose:
- Use a glucometer (in mg/dL or mmol/L).
- If glucose is in mg/dL, convert to mmol/L.

- Measure Blood Ketones: Use a ketone meter (β-hydroxybutyrate/BHB in mmol/L).
- Divide Glucose by Ketones: First check if both values are in mmol/L before dividing.
Example
- Glucose: 90 mg/dL
Convert to mmol/L: 90÷18=5 mmol/L90÷18=5mmol/L - Ketones: 1.5 mmol/L

How to use (Glucose Ketone Index) GKI Calculator?
Hello friends here we are seen hoe to used the Glucose Ketone Index (GKI) Calculator. there is step by step process to find the best result .
- Measure your blood glucose – First of all use a glucose meter to check your blood sugar level. after that save the result in mg/dL or mmol/L.
- Measure your blood ketone level – Now use a ketone meter to find your blood ketone level (in mmol/L). this is also compulsory to find GKI calculator result .
- Enter the numbers into the calculator – After that Type both values that is blood sugar level and blood ketone level into the GKI Calculator.
- Choose your glucose unit – then select the unit of getting result, If your glucose is in mg/dL, the calculator will convert it automatically.
- Get your GKI result – Now calculator are ready to provided the result .The calculator will give you a number. This is your GKI score.
Note- A lower GKI means you are deeper in ketosis (burning more fat for energy).
How to Interpret Your GKI Score
GKI Range | Metabolic State | Best For |
9+ | Low/no ketosis | General health |
6–9 | Mild ketosis | Weight maintenance |
3–6 | Optimal ketosis | Fat loss, mental clarity |
1–3 | Deep ketosis | Therapeutic (epilepsy, cancer) |
What are the factors affecting your GKI?
Here are many factor affected the Glucose Ketone Index (GKI). we are listed below the point wise detail .
- Dietary Factor
- Carbohydrate Intake :-this is the most direct impact factor which are provided the , as consuming more than 20-50g of net carbs can raise blood glucose and suppress ketone production, resulting in a higher GKI.
- Protein Intake: Consuming excess proteins can also increase blood glucose level via gluconeogenesis in this process liver can convert excess amino acids into glucose, that can impact on GKI.
- Fat Intake: Sufficient fat help in ketone production in our body which will lowering GKI. Lack of fat in our body reduce ketone production.
- Supplements: MCT Oil (medium-chain triglycerides) or Coconut Oil help in boosting ketones which will lowering Glucose Ketone Index
- Physical Activity:
- Doing high intense exercise reduce glycogen, which helps in lowering glucose level.
- Long duration aerobic activity can increase fat oxidation (fat burn) and which help in increase Ketones.
There are many other various factor which also effect GKI like Health Status (Illness/Infection or Metabolic Health), Glucose lowering drugs, Ketone-affecting Drugs, Fasting, Hydration (drinking adequate amount of water), Stress Management (reducing stress) can be improve Glucose Ketone Index.
